With the introduction of the new Matsec assessment system and changes in SSQ&P, MySchool has created an additional tool to facilitate data management for our Maltese community. Synchronise student exam choices with school-based assessments with easy import/export functionality.
Subject categorisation
A new field will be activated on your subject page, The first step is to match your existing subjects to our MSSRS subjects. All Year 7-11 subjects must be matched against the corresponding MSSRS subject. Once this is complete, our MSSRS table will match the subjects with their revelent MATSEC/SSQ&P label.
If you have different subjects for each level or track, these can be attached to the same MSSRS subject.
New subject specifications
Note that primary grades are still used for transcripts and student assessment tabs. They have been migrated from the list view to show inside the advanced configuration (Cog wheel).
Subject specification has new options available for Maltese schools. This includes a new section type;
- SBA level
- CW level
- Exam level
When added as an option, these field types are set as a scale drop-down with options set by MATSEC and SSQ&P. These are applied to the school-based assessments, coursework and exam, respectively.

Set your MSSRS grades
A new tag section will appear with the options of Primary Grade, MSSRS SBA, MSSRS CW, and MSSRS Exam.
Note that the MSSRS Exam tag is not used for Matsec reporting but only in SSQ&P.
The section must be a numeric grade type (Grade, Average, or Formula). The only accepted values are 0-100 and NP. This is mandatory for Matsec reporting.
Multiple tags can be added to the assessment section, i.e. Primary grade and MSSRS SBA or MSSRS SBA and MSSRS CW. These tags will synchronise with the grade list in the new MSSRS reporting tool. The assessment process will not change, and Educators must still enter the grades on the asses grid.
They would normally be applied to the final term or annual term assessment build.
Example;
For most schools in Malta, the required evaluation threshold type is used to collect a threshold of SBA assignment types and grades to calculate a numeric average. This assessment type is set as the MSSRS SBA, and this will be exported as such.
The appropriate SBA level is added.
An assignment average can be used to pull averages for all assignments if appropriate to calculate a course work (CW) grade average.
A simple grade entry would be used for the exam grade. The exam grade is not exported for MATSEC but will be used in the SSQ&P module for school leaving requirements. It can also be a formula field if the total exam grade is comprised of different sections or papers.
The primary grade would be a formula assessment type comprising of SBA, CW, and exam grades.
MSSRS
In the new MSSRS pages, there are three specific sections:
- Students
- Grades
- Import/Export
Each of these sections caters for different data requirements from MATSEC & SSQ&P.
Students: Class Level Mapping
For the system to know which students to show within your school, we have added a mapping slideover for you to map your Year 7 - Year 11 class levels with the MSSRS ones.
Not doing this mapping will result students not being exported onto their relevent reports.
For MATSEC only, the session is also required for them students to be exported.
Students: Behaviour
SSQ&P requires that schools enter their students overall behaviour for every academic year. There are three options you can select: Good, Needs improvement, Very Good. This will need to be added directly in the MSSRS module by, within the students tab.
Students: Attendance
SSQ&P also requires a student yearly attendance percentage, MySchool can automatically calculate this for you via the MSSRS module. When in the module just click on the Compute Attendance button, select the academic year, relevent class level and click on compute. You can also override this in the SSQ&P - Attendance & Behaviour section.
Attendance Calculation: System calculates all the days for the academic year (removing system holidays), then checks the days students have absent attendance record. It then generates a percentage out of this.
Students: Informal/Non-Formal
Besides academic enrolment, the SSQ&P report requires data about the students non-academic organisations enrolments. These can be attended either within or outside of the school premises. Students can't have attended more then 10 organisations between Year 7 - Year 11. These organisations have their own pages within the system and can be reviewed in MSSRS via the students tab.
Grades
The grades section allows you to review and override the grades and levels computed from subject specification. The compute grades allows you to pull the tags/levels set in subject specification.
Once these have been computed, each student will have a slideover load with their relevelant grades and level, should you want to amend them directly on MSSRS just update the computed data.
Export
The two exports available from the MSSRS module are:
- MATSEC Assessment (Session specific)
- SSQ&P (Academic year specific)
