Schools can customise behaviour types, and notification rules when an event has been created. We like to promote that the behaviour module can be used to reward students for positive actions rather than negative. An encouraging notification sent to the guardians or the Head of school can act as token reinforcers of positive reinforcement.
How to configure the notifications
Administrators attached to the role discipline administrator should have access to Behaviour/Adv. Options/Behaviour config.
Firstly let's check the behaviour categories, click on the edit configuration.
Use Add entry, in the bottom right corner, to add new categories,. Notice that a red cross means you can delete, however, when the cross is grey, this means that the category has been used already by an event and cannot be deleted.
Assign points to the new entry, and now determine who should be notified when these are used.
It is important to note that you must configure categories and class levels (Email notices) to be same trigger. If they are different then this may cause confusion, so best to check both notices and types at the same time.
Who can be notified?
In the drop down fields, users can choose who should be notified or provided as an option to be notified.
- Class level default - Will use the trigger set in email notices section of behaviour events.
- Never - This will not show the target in the email recipients list when creating an event.
- Yes - Always include the target in the email recipients list when creating an event. There will be no option to deselect them.
- Managed by reporter (Selected or Unselected) - Will show the recipients as being selected/unselected, leaving it up to the user creating the event to check the appropriate recipients.
Within the behaviour categories, set the different behaviours for the Parents, Staff (determine the appropriate distribution group from the drop down list in the next field), Class Teacher or Mentor.
It can also be configured for class levels in the same way. For example, you may require the younger levels be set like the screen shot below, whereby parents, class Teacher and mentor are all aware of the events at all times.
Then for the older levels, you can decide to never inform the guardians for your post ed students, or leave the selection as unselected, and the internal discipline board, maybe the only ones to receive a notification directly.
Amending the notification sent
Administrators with edit message access can change the format of the behaviour notification. The targeted groups will receive this as an email and an announcement on the MySchool platform.
Please contact your CSM to discuss the template changes beforehand, as certain fields cannot be changed, and some heavy formatting may not be appropriate across all devices.
Also you can send an SMS if you wish to the guardians on a daily basis, which will check the daily event log and send an SMS accordingly.
Where can the target group view the events?
Teachers can view events on the discipline tab of their students profile, or they may have access to the discipline report. Parents and students will have a behaviour events menu header, listing absences and behavioural events accordingly.
