For the first installment of interface changes, we have decided to relook at one of the most widely used tools within the MySchool system, the people picker. This powerful tool is used throughout the system to choose a target population from different user groups. You can find it in announcements, reporting and class/course enrolment.
What will change?
In terms of functionality, nothing will change, it is a new wave of Interface improvements. It will only be integrated into class and course enrolment tabs. These tabs are where admins enroll Teachers and students into the course/class.
Will the old people picker still be used?
Yes, you will still have the old version being used within other modules. Our aim is to change the people picker version when the module in question is ready to be released. Yet again, the functionality will not change from the old to the new.
I can't see Guardians as a user type, or user groups
No, the people picker will show students when enrolling students, and staff when enrolling Teachers for the first roll out. No guardians will be shown as they cannot be enrolled in a class or a course.
New User interface
1. Open search
At the top you still have the ability to search by individual name, class and course. Just enter the first three letters of the target, and the options will be listed underneath.
Either select the check box next to the name or open the other areas using the arrow icon >.
2. Year selector
Change the year of the target audiences, to either move backwards or forwards in system dates. This is particularly useful for rollover when you need to move class and course populations from one year to the next.
3. Level selector
Same as the previous version, start by choosing the school level of the target population, then refine the search to class levels or courses.
If you wish to choose a specific user type from the school level, then select the target from the list to the right. In the example below, we are looking into the Primary school level - Students - All students in Primary. Check the box to select the whole population of students in the School level, or select individually from the target population.
If you wish to choose a specific class level, then select from the line underneath the user types.
After selecting the school level, you can then select the class level. You can then select a specific user type from within the class level. Choose from students (will show all grade 2 students), Staff (Teachers attached to Grade 2 classes and courses), or Guardians (All guardians and Main guardians in grade 2).
Admins, please note that you will not see guardians in the user types when choosing to populate courses and classes with students and/or Teachers. The people picker will only show appropriate target populations for the enrolment tab you are using.
4. User Groups
Same as before, if you had created a user group with fixed members or SQL members then these can be accessed the same way as before.
Depending on the functionality you have accessed, the filter will only show the appropriate targets. For example, if you are enrolling students into a course from a user group, only students will be shown, even though the user group may have a mix of members.
