With the VLE course resource module, students have access to an interactive dashlet, which enables them to view course content and lesson plans, check assignments, upload completed homework, discuss issues in a group forum, and access LTI provider content all within their MySchool portal.
My courses dashlet is mapped to the student portal. It shows the course resources available for the current and previous scholastic years, so another great way to encourage revision or to simplify finding information relating to the course.
Content arranged by Topic
In the student view, the presentation is easy for the students to understand what content is related to each topic. Again an alternative organisation could be content per week/month or even term period if you wanted the students to prepare in advance. Either way works on the module. You can even set a date when the topic content becomes available, so as not to overwhelm your students, or prepare end of term quizzes and assignments.
Top tip: Include hyperlinks in the Topic description, which makes it easier for students to access web resources to support their learning.
Lesson content
With the reading icon, students will understand that this content provides further information. They open with the view button for the slide over to appear. The students can revisit lesson content whenever they need it. If they wish to acknowledge that they have completed the content then they can use the close and mark it as read. It will no longer be shown in bold once read.
Assignments explained
The functionality attached to the assignments in terms of weighting, publishing grading, and feedback is the same as the default version. In the VLE course resource pack, the student can submit works, enter text answers and recover grades, corrections and view the Educator feedback.
Open using the submit button to see the assignment details.
The assignment view has instructions, and students can download the attached documents. In the above example, they can submit completed works by clicking on add file. The Educator can download these to correct and return.
Once graded and a comment added, the student will be able to see these here. If you are an enterprise client with notifications activated then why not set the students to be notified once an assignment is graded.
Forum
Students can interact with the Educator and each other using the forum. The forum can be topic-specific or general. If you create assignments using the default assignment grade grid, the forum can be made assignment specific.
Quiz
Instead of an assignment, students can access the quiz feature in VLE. Students access the quiz via the My Courses dashlet.
The educator has the option to create 5 question types in the quiz format.
Single choice answer
The student can select only one answer.
Multiple select answers
The student can choose multiple answers. The Educator determines scoring when grading the replies.
Short/Long text answer
The student can enter open text, the short text is designed for one or two-word answers. Long text allows for longer entries.
Scale answers
Students are asked to submit an answer based on a numerical scale. No correct answer is available.
The quiz content is then graded by the educator and the student will have access to the assignment screen with overall grades, and individual feedback.
Why not create a lesson content explaining the answers for when the assignment has been graded and returned to the students?
