With the Learning Management System, Educators can create a detailed scheme of work for their courses. Link this to the content and topics section in subject specifications, whereby you can pull centrally controlled prepared resources and activate and organise them as they need to deliver the year's curriculum for the subject. Content can be copied across courses within the same subject, and from year to year. Easy to use and accessible by students and guardians. A really great tool for a blended learning approach and encourages students to prepare in advance.
What are the content resources?
Add topic folders, create lesson or content planners, attach tasks or assignments, communicate via the online forum, or
Topic folder
Topic folders are used to organise the content, but also organise your grade book assignment view as well. It helps the students find information quickly by using their My Courses dashlet. Use topic folders to group lessons and assignments under a specific subject topic or create a numerical/date sequence for students to follow.
When you create an assignment then you can select the relevant topic and the assignment will be assigned to the appropriate topic folder.
Open the folder icon and fill out the description. This will be a subheader shown to students on their My Courses dashlet. Why not add assessment criteria or key tasks and dates here as well?
Content (Lesson planner)
A great way to plan the delivery of your content is to prepare your lesson planner or introduce lesson content for the students online.
Choose to release all content at the start of the course or choose appropriate dates to release content so as not to overload the students. Don't forget to make it active if you wish to publish to portals when ready.
If a future date is entered and the resource is active, it will not show on the student portal.
If you check the notification boxes then a message will be sent asking students/guardians to check their portal for updates. Don't forget to deselect if you are still editing or need to do a small update. This avoids repetitive notifications being sent.
You can change the wording of the notification if needed by using Edit messages.
Add assignments
For a more complete explanation of how to add assignments and link with the assignment grade book, then check out this article explaining.
Creating a forum
Forums are a great way for the student cohort to share ideas and discuss issues with tasks or the course content. It is perfect for a blended teaching solution. They can be attached to assignments or created within a topic folder. Click on the icon, add a title and a date, and set the resource to active.
As a reminder to the student, group, add a description which outlines accepted behaviour and promotes the use of the forum.
Start the forum by clicking on the icon within the course resource content tab.
When there is a new post, a number will appear showing unread comments.
Reply inline to a comment or start a new thread. Comments cannot be deleted or moderated.
Create a quiz
Want to really build engagement with your online course resources and content? Why not create a quiz?
For a more detailed article explaining the quiz functionality then check out this article explaining how to create and grade the student's replies.
Please note that quizzes will show in the assignment grid and students must have access to the LMS My Courses dashlet in order to submit their answers. Why not create an assignment-type quiz and decide whether to include them in your term average or not?
LTI compliant modules
MySchool LMS can integrate with other systems such as Panopto or Blackbaud for example. If you have a provider that is LTI compliant, let your CSM know, and we can check to see if we can integrate with our LMS module.
Please note that LMS LTI configuration is not the same as integrations via sync centre. We merely host the content so that your users do not need to log into another system to access the content.
