1 Configuring achievement types
Achievement types are the reasons teachers can select when awarding points. Administrators set them up on the Achievement Type Management page, and each type has a label and a points value.
Adding an achievement type
- Go to Behaviour > Achievement Type Management.
- Click the Add Type button at the bottom right of the page.
- In the Achievement Points window, enter a Label. This is the reason teachers will see, for example "Late to Class".
- Enter the Points value for this type. Use a positive number to award points, or a negative number to deduct them, for example -5.
- Click Save.
The new type appears in the list on the Achievement Type Management page, showing its label and points value.
Editing or deleting a type
Each type in the list has Edit and delete links on the right-hand side. Please note that once a record using a certain type is created that type cannot be deleted.
2 Raising an achievement
Teachers award and view achievement points from the Achievement Points page, under Behaviour > Achievement Points. You can award points to several students at once from the main list, or to one student from their individual page.
The Achievement Points page
After logging in, go to Behaviour > Achievement Points. The page lists students with their class and current points total.
At the top of the page you can narrow the list:
- Type: choose Student list, Class list or Staff list.
- Filter by course: show only students from a selected course.
- Date from / to: set the date range for the points shown, or click Preset Ranges to pick a common range.
To find a student, type in the search box under the Full name, Class or Points column, or scroll through the list.
Awarding points to one or more students
- Find the students you want to award points to, by searching or scrolling through the list.
- Tick the box next to each student's name. To award points to one student, tick just their box.
- Click Add Entries at the bottom right of the page.
- Fill in the fields in the Achievement Points window (see "The Achievement Points window" below).
- Click Save.
Viewing and awarding points for a single student
Click a student's name in the list to open the Achievement Points by Students page. This page shows the student's Total Points and every entry they have received, with the date, label, points and the staff member who gave them.
To award points from this page:
- Click Add Entry at the bottom right.
- Fill in the fields in the Achievement Points window.
- Click Save.
To look up a different student, use the Search box at the top of the page.
The Achievement Points window
Fill in the fields as needed:
- Date: the date of the achievement. This defaults to today.
- Contributor: search for and select the staff member giving the points.
- Course: the course the achievement relates to.
- Type: the achievement type, which sets the label and points value. Types are set up on the Achievement Type Management page.
- Comment: any extra detail about the achievement.
3 Viewing achievements
Year leaders and staff can view achievement points in two ways: on the Achievement Points page, or by generating a report from Behaviour > Achievement Reports.
Viewing points on the Achievement Points page
- Go to Behaviour > Achievement Points.
- Use the Type, Filter by course and Date from / to options to narrow the list. The Points column shows each student's total for the selected date range.
- To find a student, search under the Full name, Class or Points column, or scroll through the list.
- Click a student's name to open the Achievement Points by Students page. This shows their Total Points and every entry they have received, with the date, label, points and the staff member who gave them.
For screenshots of these pages, see "Achievements - Raising an achievement".
Viewing points through reports
For totals across a group, go to Behaviour > Achievement Reports and generate one of the following reports:
- Points by House
- Points by Student
- Points by Achievement Type
- Points by Class
See "Achievements - Achievement reports" for details of each report.
4 Achievement reports
Four reports summarise achievement points across your school. To generate one, go to Behaviour > Achievement Reports.
Points by Achievement Type
Set a date range, and the report lists every achievement type given in that period, for example "No HW" or "Late to Class". Use it to see which reasons are recorded most often.
Points by House
This report shows the overall points for each house. Every point a student receives is added to their house's total.
To use this report, your students must first be placed into houses:
- Create a custom field for houses, for example with the options Red, Blue, Green and Yellow.
- Link each student to their house through that custom field.
Once students are linked, their points count towards their house automatically.
Points by Student
This report shows all the achievement entries given to a selected student.
Points by Class
This report shows the overall points for each class.
5 Achievement Dashlet
Two dashlets show achievement points on the MySchool dashboard: Achievement Points and Today's Achievement Points.
Achievement Points
This dashlet shows a student's achievement points at a glance:
- Total: the student's total achievement points.
- Rank: the student's current rank, for example "Novice".
The rank is set automatically from the student's total points:
| Total points | Rank |
|---|---|
| Below 35 | Novice |
| 35 to 69 | Competent |
| 70 to 99 | Expert |
| 100 to 124 | Master |
| 125 to 149 | Grand Master |
These ranks and point ranges are fixed and cannot be edited. If your school does not want to use ranks, we recommend the Today's Achievement Points dashlet instead.
Click More information at the bottom of the dashlet for more detail.
Today's Achievement Points
This dashlet lists every achievement entry recorded today, showing each Student and the Points they received. If no points have been given today, the dashlet shows "no achievement points today".
Adding the dashlets
Dashlets are set up by the MySchool support team. To add one or both:
- Raise a support ticket.
- Say which dashlets you would like: Achievement Points, Today's Achievement Points or both.
- Say who should see each dashlet, for example teachers, year leaders, students or guardians.
The support team will then add the dashlets for the users you specify.
