In alignment with BC graduation requirements, we have introduced a Dogwood Diploma template for assessment reports. This allows schools to publish a report listing mandatory subjects, electives, Grade 12 requirements, Indigenous subjects, and numeracy and literacy assessments — showing each student's progress toward the 2023 Dogwood graduation requirements.
Note: To populate your subject tag list with Dogwood labels, please contact our support team.
Graduation Requirements
Students require a minimum of 80 credits from subjects followed in Grades 10–12:
- 52 credits from mandatory subjects
- 28 credits from elective subjects
Mandatory Subjects (52 credits)
| Subject | Credits |
|---|---|
| Language Arts 10, 11, and 12 | 12 |
| Social Studies 10, and a Social Studies 11 or 12 | 8 |
| Math 10, and a Math 11 or 12 | 8 |
| Science 10, and a Science 11 or 12 | 8 |
| Physical and Health Education 10 | 4 |
| Arts Education 10, 11, or 12 and/or Applied Design, Skills, and Technologies 10, 11, or 12 | 4 |
| Career-Life Education | 4 |
| Career-Life Connections | 4 |
| Total | 52 |
Additional Requirements
- Grade 12 credits — at least 16 credits must be at the Grade 12 level, including a required Language Arts 12 and Career-Life Connections
- Indigenous-focused credits — at least 4 credits from Indigenous-focused subjects
Graduation Assessments
Students must also complete three provincial graduation assessments:
| Assessment | Introduced |
|---|---|
| Grade 10 Numeracy Assessment | 2018 |
| Grade 10 Literacy Assessment | 2019/20 |
| Grade 12 Literacy Assessment | 2021/22 |
To qualify for the numeracy and literacy assessments, the student must be enrolled in the appropriate XAM course. Students enrolled in the XAM course will be classed as 'completed' even if no grade has been entered.
Assigning Tags to Subjects
A Tags field is available on each subject. In edit mode, click the field and select all applicable Dogwood tags. A subject can have as many tags as needed.
Example — Chemistry 12 would carry the following tags: Science 12, Grade 12, Elective.
A subject can carry both a mandatory and an elective tag. The system will first check mandatory subject requirements. For example, if a student is enrolled in both Physics 12 and Chemistry 12, one will count toward the Science 11/12 mandatory requirement, and the other will be added to the elective count.
Credits from correctly tagged subjects are accumulated to meet validation rules. For example, a student may follow multiple 2-credit Indigenous-focused subjects — the system will add these credits together to meet the 4-credit Indigenous requirement.
Setting Up the Assessment Report
To add the Dogwood Diploma section to a report:
Select Dogwood Diploma as part of your assessment report template
Click the cog icon to open options for adding text to the header and credit block
Append this section to any existing report template, or create a new exam term for publishing
All other assessment report sections work as usual. To add a principal's signature or comment, add the appropriate section to the report template.
The Dogwood certificate can also be produced in a compact landscape format by selecting the compact report style option.

Student Eligibility
For a student to appear on the Dogwood certificate, the following conditions must be met:
The student must have 2023 set as their valid graduation programme (found in the BC tab)
The student must be enrolled in a course attached to a correctly classified BC CRS/XAM subject
Subjects that are not TRAX-based will not appear on the certificate
The student must have a final school grade entered in the TRAX data for the subject to count toward the certificate
The student must have a pass score of 50 or more to obtain the credits
The pass score threshold can be adjusted — contact our support team if you need to change it.
How Credits Are Calculated
The system processes credits in the following order:
- Mandatory subjects are checked first. Once the full 52 mandatory credits are accounted for, the system fills the electives section with the remaining qualifying credits up to 28.
- If a student has not qualified for a mandatory subject, it will appear in the required credits section with 0 credits.
- The completed credit score combines both mandatory and elective credits. If the student has not yet reached 80 total credits, the shortfall will show in the credits required field.
The completed credit score will add both section credits together. If the student is missing credits, this will show in the credits required field if the total (80) has not been achieved.
