If you are encountering a problem with accessing files from your MySchool platform, and are using Microsoft Edge browsers, you may receive a '404' message. Unfortunately, this is from Edge.
In the latest versions of Microsoft Edge, there's an option to open Office files directly in the browser using office.com. However, enabling this feature causes errors when attempting to open Office documents from MySchool's all-in-one school management system software.
Users may encounter either an HTTP 404 error or a message in Word Online stating, "Sorry, there was a problem and we can’t open this document. If this happens again, try opening the Document in Microsoft Word".
To fix this you can use both the below techniques;
- Access attached documents by right-clicking on the file name and selecting 'Save Link As..' from the menu that appears. This action saves the file to the desktop, where it can then be opened using Microsoft Office.
-
Disable the Edge setting that opens Office files in the browser. Here's how:
- Go to Edge Settings.
- Choose Downloads.
- Turn off 'Open Office files in the Browser'.
- Use the latest version of Google Chrome to download documents from MySchool.
