FAQ - Using a threshold average in assessments

If you would like to compute an assignment average using the top 80% of assignment grades for example, then you can use the Threshold Average assessment type in subject specifications. It is a new assessment type.

Configure to use a threshold and assignment type

With the assessment type Evaluation threshold/with override, you select the assignment types you wish to pull for the specified term. Enter a numerical percentage value to pull the top-scoring assignments and calculate an average based on these results.

If the course and students have a total of 10 assignments, and you enter 80% in the threshold field. The system will look for the eight best 8 scores. All scores are normalised, so a 7/10 score is the same as 70/100. 

Specify to only use certain assignment types, most common would be SBA's or school based assessments.

N.b. Even if the student has fewer graded assignments than their peers, it will still pull the same percentage regardless of number.
