Need your students to select subjects for the upcoming year? Student electives can add more pressure to your promotion tasks, as administrators and coordinators need to work on different platforms and collect information from different sources before they even start to assign the students to the courses.
MySchool has a simple-to-set-up and easy-to-manage module which can help. Included in the CORE SIS, ask your CSM to activate the student subject selector for your student portal.
Setting up the module
The functionality includes a student portal subject selector and an admin/management control screen. Contact your CSM to activate these on your MySchool platform.
Setting up your subjects
Within any subject, you have the promotion and enrolment tab. Here you can determine if the subject is mandatory or elective and for which target grade level.
In this case, the students in grade 11 cannot select English 12 as it is classed as mandatory. |
Biology 12 is not mandatory, so students in Grade 11 can choose to follow the subject or select an alternative choice. |
Open the access rights
Decide when the students can access this tool. Stagger per grade level or leave blank if the choice has an open period.
Note that whilst there is no date, the students can alter their selection at any time.
Students select
The student can now make their choice between selected and alternative. They are still selected for English 12 as it is mandatory. It also shows the count of credits taken from the subject fields. This helps them calculate allocated credits for their final transcript.
Co-ordinators manage the selection
Enrolment coordinators can now decide as to which subjects the student should be enrolled on for the next year.
